A lot has happened since my last post. Post Savannah Jeff encouraged me to start looking at races so that I would have something to look towards in an effort to stop wallowing. So, we planned a whole training series leading up to a spring marathon in March. What neither of anticipated or expected was that it would take nearly 5 weeks for me to heal. The decision to chuck the marathon was surprisingly easy, and solely my decision, which Jeff supported. So now I just have a bunch of 1/2 marathons, 5ks, and 10ks on the schedule. There still maybe a marathon in my future for the fall, but we haven’t decided which one just yet.
So, what does it all mean? It means I’m going to learn how to race in 2012. Not just complete races, but race them for times. For now I’m still recovering, and rebuilding my base mileage from the weeks of only biking. Last week was really my first official week back, 20 miles of running, and 20 miles biking. For now we’re really focusing on strength training, and maintaining fitness. For the first time I actually have an off-season, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s a chance to catch my breath, and just enjoy running again without the intense workouts of marathon training. The first 10k is coming up on New Year’s day. I don’t know that I’ll be setting any new records, but hopefully I can have a nice strong race, and start getting my confidence back. I’m excited about 2012, and it’s nice to have that feeling back!
